For Residential Sector:

Lighting An easy way to save energy is to cut down on unnecessary lighting.You can

  •  

Turn off all lights when not in use.
  •  

Use CFL’s wherever possible.
  •  

Focus lights on your task instead of high wattage lamps  for the entire room.
  •  

Keep bulbs and fixtures clean.
  •  

Use natural sunlight wherever possible.

Other Appliances-
  •  

Purchase BEE labeled star rated appliances.
  •  

Seal windows and doors properly before turning on AC.
  •  

Do not keep hot food items in the fridge.
  •  

Minimize the opening of the fridge door.
  •  

Use energy efficient motors and pump sets for lifting water.
  •  

Switch off appliances when not in use.
  •  

Your TV and other Electronic items continue to consume   power when switched OFF from remote. So next time, make sure that these items are switched OFF from the source.
  •  

Prefer to purchase front loading washing machines than the top loading ones. They consume 25% less energy.
  •  

Stop wastage of water, you can save a lot by fixing leaking taps and overflowing tanks.
  •  

Paint your walls with light colours. The deep colours absorb more light so you tend to use higher wattage lamps.

For Industrial Sector:

  •  

Use Capacitor Banks to reduce demand and improve power  factor.
  •  

Use maximum demand  controllers .
  •  

Use fibre ceilings to use sunlight as far as possible and minimize use of lamps.
  •  

Use metal halides instead of Sodium vapour lamps for outdoor lighting.
  •  

Do not use compressed air to wash the body and drying.
  •  

Plug all water and air leakages.
  •  

Lubricate all bearings to minimize wastage of power.
  •  

Use Energy efficient motors .
  •  

Carry out Energy audit of your units and follow the recommendations as per the cost benefit analysis.
